Dharma Secret’s LOST-n-Found: A Blog Dedicated to the T.V. Show Lost

Rachel Blake

From one of our readers:

On http://www.rachelblake.com/2006/06/reykjavik-iceland.html

Rachel says “I may also take a trip today down the coast, perhaps to the city of Vik. It’s supposed to be gorgeous, and I think it’s at the southernmost tip of the island, so it will feel like an accomplishment.”

Vik is the site of the fictional Hanso Foundation’s Vik Institute in the TV series Lost.

I’m from Iceland and I just wanted to let you know.

PS: as you can see, Vik is not a big city, it’s a very small village

Vik village
We might one day find a video of Rachel’s research and visit to “Hanso Foundation’s Vik Institute”

LOST Experience: Rachel-Malik Six, Seven, & Eight

It was a busy day for code breakers today. The day started with a coded message from Malik to Rachel on rachelblake.com.

Translating the binary gave gamers the following hex code.

52202D2D2049207265737065637420796F75722063617574696F6E2E202053757070

After decoding the hex, gamers found the actual message.

“R — I respect your caution. Suppose it’s warranted, after all you’ve come through. I can’t remember it exactly, but I think when we were in the stairwell in Paris, you muted the mic as I said “Because he wanted me to help you, and I can’t question a man who would launch the Mental Health Appeal… to save a loved one.” Say what you will about him now, his heart was once in the right place.”

Rachel’s reply was found on her Stop Hanso blog.

The decoded octal provides gamers with “IiY’nCmN” which is quickly anagramed to “I’m in NYC.”

Finally, a third message (the eighth in correspondance between the two) is found on whereisalvar.com

As in Malik’s previous message, decoding the binary provided the following hex code:

59 6f 75 20 6c 69 76 65 64 20 69 6e 20 33 20 64 69 66 66 65 72 65 6e 74 20 61 70 61 72 74 6d 65 6e 74 73 2e 20 42 65 20 77 61 69 74 69 6e 67 20 6f 75 74 73 69 64 65 20 79 6f 75 72 20 73 65 63 6f 6e 64 20 61 74 20 37 3a 34 35 20 50 4d 2e 20 49 27 6d 20 73 65 6e 64 69 6e 67 20 61 20 63 61 72 2e 20 48 6f 70 65 20 79 6f 75 20 72 65 6d 65 6d 62 65 72 20 74 68 65 20 62 72 61 6e 64 20 6f 66 20 69 72 6f 6e 20 79 6f 75 20 68 69 74 20 6d 65 20 77 69 74 68 2c 20 62 65 63 61 75 73 65 20 74 68 61 74 27 73 20 74 68 65 20 63 6f 64 65 2e 0d 0a

Then, by decoding the hex, the following text was discovered:

“You lived in 3 different apartments. Be waiting outside your second at 7:45 PM. I’m sending a car. Hope you remember the brand of iron you hit me with, because that’s the code.”

LOST Experience: Rachel-Malik Part Five

On Sept. 13th, hansoexposed.com was updated to now include a flashing asterisk link that leads gamers to a page where they can hear a morse code message from Rachel to Malik.

After translating the code, gamers found the following reply to Malik.

“M–I wish it were that simple. Fact is, as much as I want to, I still can’t trust you. I want to believe you are the man who helped me in Paris but “de Zylva’s” name was not unknown. You could be Mittlewerk himself, springing a trap under my feet. I need confirmation it’s you. I need you tell me something only you could know.”
