LOST Experience: Speaker Clue Leads to Glyph 17

Recap built off of information from a post in the comments on TLEC by “noiq”.

On July 28th, Glyph 17 with the code “ZY6C” was found when the Speaker, in his weekly “Reader Mail” entry, posted the following clue:

“Eighth moon of the Monkey thrice before.
A voice from the Middle knows much more.”

This puzzled gamers for a while (Why is it that all the good updates happen when I’m at work!), before an intrepid gamer figured out that “Voice from the Middle” refers to Javi Grill-Marxuach, one of the original writers of Lost and the creator of the comic book “Middleman”. This led to his blog, “Javi Speaks” where a blog entry from 15 Aug 1980 (the eighth month of the third previous Year of the Monkey) was found at http://tinyurl.com/zk62v.

This blog entry provides gamers with the next clue, “The numbers will help you. Do you have the time?”, along with a link to, http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/thefuselage.com.

The time of Javi’s post was 8:15, which leads to thread #815 on thefuselage.com, where gamers found a post from the Speakerwith the message, “You’ve come this far, don’t give up now, Solve this anagram and you won’t drown“.

Gamers soon figured out that the anagram “JIM VOMITS IN A CONDO” translates into “JAVI MINIONS DOT COM

Gamers then found some hidden text at the bottom of the page which read, “In Round-Up number three, click what’s STILL a mystery.”

“Round-up number three” led gamers to the Speaker’s Week Three Recap which, among other things, included the “Hole 2″ clue (”click what’s STILL a mystery”).

After thinking about it for a bit, I figured out that the beginning of the clue, “Eighth moon of the monkey”, could also refer to the “Simian Veterinarian” job post on Hanso Careers which was also released in week three and as such included in the Week Three Recap. Although I think that this would be a VERY obscurereference, and I doubt that someone could have used that to find the glyph.

LOST Experience: ROT 7/27 Update

On July 27th, a new thread was added to the the Retrievers of Truth forum, in which supposed defector BroadBandBeatnik returned to the forum.

In this new thread, BroadBandBeatnik claimed that he did not accept a job from the Hanso Foundation, and that he had been at Comic-Con for the last week.

As evidence, Beatnik provided a picture supposedly take of him while at Comic-Con, which poses the question, if Beatnik didn’t post the Hanso clip on Broadband Stories, then who did? Among other things discoved in this thread is a mention of the Beatbox Mixer page on the Verizon site, which does not appear to have anything ARG related at this time.

Return of the Prodigal Son - 07/27/06

BroadBandBeatnik: Yo yo yo. What is up everybody?

IobiSeeingYou: TRAITOR on the premises!

Fiberoptician: DSL, I hear buzzing. Quick, get my bug spray.

BroadBandBeatnik: Huh? You talking to me?

Fiberoptician: Yeah, you and your half a kilobyte brain cell.

IobiSeeingYou: Are you logging in from some Hanso retreat out in the Pacific? Fishing for inside information? You are dead to me. D E A D. Someone unplug him.

BroadBandBeatnik: Sheesh, what’s the hostility for?

DSLerator: I’m gonna shut this board down if you won’t stop hacking into it.

BroadBandBeatnik: Hey, what did I do?

IobiSeeingYou: Jeez. He’s practicing his acting skills. Got an explanation? Well, I don’t wanna hear it.

Fiberoptician: Your log-in time is about to expire. You have 5, 4, 3 seconds left to evacuate…

BroadBandBeatnik: HEY! Seriously now! Call it quits. I’m gone for a week and you all freak out on me? I thought we discussed it earlier this month! Yeah, I’m sorry you were all too busy working on the Beatbox Mixer.

DSLarator: Yeah. Day and night. For 5 months straight. Nice of you to notice.

Fiberoptician: *drum roll* And……GO! Boom chicka boom click clack clack.

IobiSeeingYou: Geek.

Fiberoptician: And proud of it. I got skills. I practice in front of the mirror.

IobiSeeingYou: Can we get back to the point, please?

DSLerator: Beatnik, you’ve been excommunicated.

BroadBandBeatnik: Why?! Because I’m the slacker that got a few extra days off to attend biggest and coolest event of the year. So sue me. I’m not sorry. Comic Con ROCKS.

DSLerator: You went to Comic Con?

BroadBandBeatnik: No to Ethiopia. YES I WENT TO COMIC CON.

Fiberoptician: Oh yeah….. Now I remember… He did tell me one day over lunch.

IobiSeeingYou: I don’t believe it. Prove it.

BroadBandBeatnik: Here. (http://www.retrieversoftruth.com/users/BroadBandBeatnik/htdocs/images/ thats_me.jpg) That’s the back of my head.

Fiberoptician: That is the back of his head.

BroadBandBeatnik: So there.

IobiSeeingYou: Fine. But if you were at Comic Con, who uploaded Mittlework to
Broadband Stories?

Fiberoptician: Good question.

Although intriguing, many have noticed several discrepancies in Beatnik’s story. First is the difference in time. Beatnik’s departure was announced in the “How’d you like a Greasy Pork Sandwich in a Dirty Astray” two weeks ago, yet he claims that he had only been gone a week. The second discrepancy is the questionable authenticity of the picture he provided. In particular, the fact that there is no way to verify if it is him, The general age of the people in the room, and that the room they are in does not resemble any of the rooms used during Comic-Con.
